When Things Aren’t Moving – A Natural Approach to Kids’ Constipation

More water. More fiber. Fewer bananas. Prune juice. Miralax. If your child struggles with constipation, you’ve probably cycled through every suggestion and you may be wondering why nothing seems to work long-term. Diet and hydration absolutely matter. But they don’t always tell the whole story. Sometimes the root of the issue is neurological!

The Nervous System & Digestion

The digestive system doesn’t run on its own, it’s regulated by nerve signals that travel through the lower spine and sacrum. When there’s tension or misalignment in these areas, it can disrupt the communication that tells the intestines to keep things moving. Think of it like a dimmer switch: a spinal misalignment doesn’t necessarily turn off nerve function entirely, but it can slow it down, and slowed gut motility often shows up as chronic constipation that no amount of fiber seems to fix.

We regularly see children come in for other concerns — torticollis, ear infections, colic — and parents mention weeks later that their child’s constipation resolved as a wonderful bonus. It’s one of the most gratifying things we witness!

What to Expect

We’ll take a thorough health history and gently assess your child’s spine and nervous system. Adjustments are light and precise always adapted for their age, size, and comfort.
