Pregnancy Chiropractic Care and 3 Stretches to Try Today

Pregnancy asks a lot of your body. As your baby grows, your center of gravity shifts, your ligaments loosen in preparation for birth, and your spine and pelvis adapt to new demands almost weekly. It’s no surprise that back pain, hip discomfort, and sciatica are among the most common complaints during pregnancy and it’s exactly why prenatal chiropractic care has become such a popular part of a healthy pregnancy routine.

Why Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy?

Prenatal chiropractic care focuses on keeping the spine and pelvis balanced as your body changes. Our team uses the Webster Technique, a specific, gentle adjustment method designed to reduce tension in the pelvis and surrounding ligaments.

Potential benefits reported by expecting mothers include:

  • Reduced lower back, hip, and pelvic pain
  • Better pelvic balance, which may support optimal fetal positioning
  • Relief from sciatic nerve irritation
  • Support for an easier, more comfortable labor experience

Care is always tailored to each trimester, with techniques and positioning adjusted for comfort and safety as pregnancy progresses.

3 Stretches to Support a More Comfortable Pregnancy

These gentle stretches are commonly recommended to ease common pregnancy discomforts. As always, check with your provider before starting any new stretching routine, and stop if anything feels painful.

1. Cat-Cow Stretch: Get on your hands and knees, wrists under shoulders and knees under hips. Inhale as you drop your belly and lift your head and tailbone (cow); exhale as you round your spine, tucking your chin and pelvis (cat). Move slowly between the two positions for 8–10 rounds. This stretch helps relieve tension along the entire spine and can ease lower back discomfort.

2. Seated Piriformis (Figure-4) Stretch: Sit in a sturdy chair with feet flat on the floor. Cross one ankle over the opposite knee, forming a figure-4 shape. Keeping your back straight, gently hinge forward from the hips until you feel a stretch in the outer hip and glute. Hold for 20–30 seconds per side. This stretch can help relieve sciatic nerve irritation, which becomes more common as the growing uterus puts pressure on the lower back and hips.

3. Standing Pelvic Tilt: Stand with your back against a wall, knees slightly bent, feet a few inches from the wall. Gently flatten your lower back against the wall by tightening your abdominal muscles and tilting your pelvis under, then release. Repeat 10–15 times. This gentle movement helps strengthen the core and improve pelvic alignment, both of which support better posture as your belly grows.
